Presentations & Workshops

I  deliver presentations and workshops a variety of topics related to emotions, emotional intelligence and self-compassion, in the context of child development, education and parenting.

I have worked with community organizations, childcare societies, universities and schools to deliver presentations to parents, early childhood and school educators, and frontline workers. I have also worked with in-house Learning and Development teams in corporations to integrate emotional intelligence and mindfulness into their existing programs, and train master trainers.

Every presentation and workshop I deliver is guided by three pillars:
Research informed content | Relationship-oriented teaching | Inclusive and practical strategies

Current Workshops Offered

Below are some examples of workshops I have designed and delivered. These can be adapted to unique needs of an organization (e.g., to be specific to a developmental stage, or to address learners with special needs) and connected to specific organization goals and values. We can also work together  in designing a wide range of educational materials that aim to increase targeted knowledge and skills. As the organization, you can then use these materials to facilitate professional development for your staff or provide new learning opportunities for your clients.

Social and Emotional learning (SEL)
This workshop provides an introduction to SEL, covers what science tells us about childhood as a special window for promoting social and emotional development, and offers practical tools for building emotional literacy in the home and classroom.

Fostering Emotion Regulation
Introduction to emotion regulation, executive functions, and tools and strategies for helping children (and adults!) build emotion regulation capabilities

Building Social Competence
Theories and tools for helping children build social skills. Topics covered includes initiating and maintaining friendships, resolving conflict, and the underlying skills of emotion recognition, empathy and kindness.

Emotionally Conscious Caregiving
This workshop begins with a reflection on how, as adults, we have existing patterns of dealing with emotions that will affect how we respond to children's feelings. Tools and strategies for responding to emotions in kids in ways that feel safe, manageable, and that also teaches them about emotions, will be shared,  This emotion-focused workshop uses John Gottman's framework of emotional parenting styles o(emotionally disapproving, dismissive, permissive and emotion coaching), and discusses the risks and benefits of each of these styles.

Mindfulness for educators or caregivers
This workshop serves as an introduction to mindfulness, its benefit and applications in the home or classroom, and will include some everyday mindfulness practices for adults themselves, as well as to practice with children.

Self-care is NOT selfish!
Self-care is what allows us to care for others in a sustainable way. This workshop will speak to the importance of self-care, discuss warning signs when self-care is needed, and offer some long and short term practices for boosting well-being and getting ahead of burnout.

Empathy Activate!
Empathy is a key ingredient for building positive relationships, resolving conflicts, and creating inclusive and peaceful environments. While as a social species our brains are wired for empathy and connection, there are intentional practices we can do to strengthen our empathic abilities. In this workshop participants will
- gain a deeper understanding of empathy and compassion,
- learn underlying mechanisms that support empathy building, and
- practice everyday strategies for activating and growing empathy.
What clients say
"Angela was by far one of the best presenters that I have heard in over 20 plus years. She was well prepared both in her presentation and the resources that she provided. She shared her humanity and vulnerability with the group which is humbling and so needed in our society."
Workshop participant, Caring for you Workshop @ the Dalai Lama Center, Dec 2020.
“We have had Angela come to our various parenting programs.  Angela is pleasant  and has a warm personality. She clearly explains information.  Most importantly, she communicates as a parent, her experiences are the parents’ experiences, making them feel they are not the only ones struggling with parenting.  This makes her suggestions useful and practical.”
Patricia Paz
Family Programs Coordinator, Kitsilano Neighborhood House, Vancouver
"Angela was fun, funny and very human. Gave us time to talk, share and gave examples from her life"
